SERVE TO WIN – Novak Djokovic
In 2011 Djokovic won ten singles titles, three grand slams and forty-three consecutive matches. What was odd was that less than 18-months earlier commentators were questioning whether he would ever have the mental and physical strength to finish a five set match. Djokovic who was brought up in Belgrade suffered from crippling muscle fatigue, asthma and stomach cramps late in games and was regularly forced to retire from major competitions. ‘Serve to Win’ is an unusually honest account of how sporting performance can be transformed by changes in lifestyle and diet. Djokovic is evangelical about the perils of eating too much gluten rich foods and sports scientists are now increasingly backing his experience. Top athletes are no longer eating high carbohydrate diets all the time and many of the best and most enduring athletes follow similar regimes to Djokovic. A short book at just 161 pages and filled with practical advice on warming up, stretching, yoga, sleep and fitness as well as diet, this book is really worth a read.
